Maria Gazoulis is a member of the Academic Council of the Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy.
Mrs. Gazoulis is Associate Professor at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She was born in Athens, grew up and finished her high school in Kalamata and was admitted to the Department of Biology of the University of Athens. He holds two PhD degrees from the Department of Biology and the Medical School of the University of Athens. He has conducted post-doctoral research at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington DC, USA, and has worked and trained in well-known laboratories abroad. It is distinguished with awards from 1995 to present and presents highly focused research on the molecular / genetic basis of gastrointestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel diseases and cancer. At the same time, she has received scholarships, such as the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) for postdoctoral research in Greece and the Fulbright Foundation for Nanomedical Research and Education at the University of Maryland, NanoCenter, USA and in 2006 she received the UNESCO-L’OREAL for Women in Science. In 2016 he was honored by the Council of the Foundation of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with the “Karatheodoris” Excellence Award. Her research focuses on the Molecular – Genetic Base of Idiopathic Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Digestive Cancer. Today it has more than 200 international publications in magazines with a high degree of impact (such as Nature Genetics, Gastroenterology, Gut etc), books in books, 6 patents and is recognized by the international community with more than 5 000 reports. In addition, alongside the educational her work in undergraduate and postgraduate students,Mrs. Gazouli participates both as a Scientific Coordinator and as a scientific research team leader in several large-scale research projects.
